Lakers prevail in OT against Warriors

OAKLAND — The Lakers as the world used to know them do not win when every single shot Kobe Bryant takes in overtime comes up short. These resurgent Lakers, even without injured Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, did just that Monday night in a gut-check overtime effort against the Golden State Warriors that resulted in a 123-119 victory. Derek Fisher, Sasha Vujacic and Lamar Odom took turns donning Bryant’s usual closer’s hat in a stunning display of mind over matter on the Lakers’ part.

With Fisher starting a comeback from four points down with a 3-pointer with 1:26 left in overtime, the Lakers shook off the fatigue of playing the last game in their only stretch of four games in five days this season.

Late Sunday night at Staples Center, Odom had been making all sorts of groaning sounds as he tried to get dressed after a career-high 22-rebound losing effort against the Warriors. Then Odom played all 53 minutes Monday night, became the first Lakers player to have at least 20 rebounds in back-to-back games since Vlade Divac in February 1995 and made the winning basket. – OC Register
