NBA 2009: Lakers Beat Jazz 113-100

A lot have happened in the past few days.  The Elton Brand coup.  The Baron Davis defection.  The unusual usual roster of the Wizards – Jamison and Arenas. Again? I think that combination (with Butler) has run its course.  But that’s just my dumb opinion.

The Brand / Davis event is understandable.  Brand wants to win and he knows he can’t win in the west.  Hehe, sorry Elton but your coach Mike Dunleavy tried to guess that one.  And Davis? Honestly, I knew he would bolt.  He was the franchise player and Nellie benched him in the last games while the Warriors were  catching the last playoff spot.

OK, I don’t see any other important free agency singings… except the Lakers’, of course!

Let’s start with Ronnie.  $17 mil for four years – that’s sweet.  Will the Lakers match the offer? Hmmm.. I think it’s a purely business decision for Buss.  The Lakers’ ticket prices got more expensive yet again.  Maybe that’s where they can get Ronnie’s salary.  It’s a tough call. I’m sure Ronnie deserves that raise but the Lakers are in luxury tax territory.  What if they make Odom a sixth man?  A backup to Pau Gasol?  Then Ronnie is dispensable, no?

OK, let’s leave the Ronnie puzzle for a minute and turn to the next puzzle in Sasha.  So far, nobody’s offered something to Sasha.  Why not?  He’s your typical backup shooter -  a streaky shooter, a pesky defender (not necessarily good) and wears a headband.  If you want the other team’s superstar to be tossed out of the game, then Sasha is the man for the job.  Plus, he is the second best player in your team’s practice.

Back to possible scenarios/answers.  Match Ronnie’s offer sheet and pray that Sasha is “overlooked” by other teams. If we can get Kwame by not matching Ronnie’s and Sasha’s offer sheets (if applicable), good.

I’m crazy, no?
